Causes of air duct contamination

Air duct is the main way of supplying clean air into a room. Together with the air, dust, sweepings, cobweb, and grease settle on the equipment’s internal surfaces.

Regardless of the frequency of cleaning the place, debris and dust will still get into the air duct. It’s impossible to avoid the ventilation contamination, but there are certain actions you can take to keep the system up and running and maintain a healthy microclimate in the room.

 

Why is the dirty air duct dangerous?

First, grease and dust deposits in the ventilation become a fuel for pathogenic microorganisms – mold and mites. They increase the risk of allergic reactions and chronic diseases. Bacteria and mold in the air vent spread throughout the rooms in no time, provoking acute respiratory viralinfections and diseases.

Second, the clogged dust, cobweb, and grease significantly increase fire risks. The flame easily spreads by the air and immediately engulf all the rooms connected by the air duct system.

Third, a dirty air duct prevents free circulation of the air. The contaminated air duct reduces the equipment performance by several times if compared to the one specified in its design documentation.

After cleaning the air duct, the air vent should always be disinfected. This is a mandatory stage that completely eliminates the risk of developing harmful microorganisms – viruses, mold and bacteria. In-house disinfection of the air duct may lead to poorer air quality and erode the health condition of people in the room.
